![]() The bus station was in need of investment to redevelop the derelict shopping centre. The hotel was located at the bus station in Benidorm (great for onward journeys) and was across the road from the tram station. The food tasted great and hot drinks / juice were unlimited. We ate breakfast at the hotel every day and there was a good selection of cereals, fruits, yogurts, bread and hot items (Spanish bacon and sausages, fried eggs, beans etc). ![]() There was no tea or coffee making facilities, but drinks were available at the cafe (reasonably priced). It was possible to hire a safe for a small daily charge. There was a fridge in the room, WiFi, air conditioning, toiletries and a hairdryer. The beds were comfortable and the towels were new. Our room was spacious, but in need of painting (a few scuffs on the walls) and a few tiles in the bathroom were chipped. There was a 24 hour reception and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. ![]() Facilities at the hotel were great and included a gym and sauna, launderette, onsite restaurant / cafe and a rooftop pool with artificial grass, a picnic area, sun beds and panoramic views across Benidorm. We had a 1 week stay at this hotel on a B&B basis, which was clean but dated and basic. ![]()

After the war Garfield worked as a biochemical laboratory technician at the Whittington Hospital in Islington, writing in his spare time until the 1960s, when he was successful enough to write full-time. She would also greatly influence Garfield's writing, giving him suggestions for his writing, including the original idea for Smith. ![]() While posted in Belgium he met Vivien Alcock, then an ambulance driver, who would go on to become his second wife (in 1948) and a well-known children's author. For his service in the war he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps. He married Lena Leah Davies in April, 1941, at Golders Green Synagogue but they separated after only a few months. Garfield attended Brighton Grammar School (1932-1938) and went on to study art at Regent Street Polytechnic, but his studies were interrupted first by lack of funds for fees, then by the outbreak of World War II. That wasn't a big worry, however, since it was being released by original Eightball publisher Fantagraphics, and Daniel Clowes himself was handling the design and providing new art. This book seemed to spend a long time in limbo, with the release date being pushed back several times, but it definitely lived up to expectations. Included are over 450 pages of vintage Clowes, including such seminal serialized graphic novels/strips/rants as Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron, Ghost World, Pussey, I Hate You Deeply, Sexual Frustration, Ugly Girls, Why I Hate Christians, Message to the People of the Future, Paranoid, My Suicide, Chicago, Art School Confidential, On Sports, Zubrick and Pogeybait, Hippypants and Peace-Bear, Grip Glutz, The Sensual Santa, Feldman, and so many more." ![]() Now, for the 25th Anniversary of Eightball, Fantagraphics is collecting these long out-of-print issues in a slipcased set of two hardcover volumes, reproducing each issue in facsimile form exactly as they were originally published. Before he rose to fame as a filmmaker and the author of the best-selling graphic novels Ghost World, David Boring, Ice Haven, and The Death Ray, Daniel Clowes made his name from 1989 to 1997 by producing 18 issues of the beloved comic book series Eightball, which is still widely considered to be one of the greatest and most influential comic book titles of all time. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sound familiar? If so, this book will speak to you. The book begins by talking about the typical lifestyle of people in our society - working long hours, stressed out, not seeing their families … all to support a lifestyle of luxury, to have material possessions. That’s right: live on less, and retire early. Once you realize this, you realize that you can live on less, and retire early. It has those elements, to be sure, but it approaches everything with a refreshing perspective: life isn’t worth wasting away by working 40+ hours a week for the rest of your life, just so you can have enough money to buy material possessions. If you’re expecting a typical book about personal finance - investing, saving, budgeting, etc. That might sound like a pretty rave review, but it’s genuine, and I believe it’s justified. Overview Your Money or Your Life: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Achieving Financial Independence, by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin, is absolutely one of my favorite books ever and perhaps the best book on personal finance ever written.
